Lake level is at 62% .

Drove up  the east side of the lake as far as Mallard cove on  Dec 22^nd there is still a significant amount of open water on the lake. Coot Bay and Mallard Cove are the easiest access points, will have to walk through snow to get to the lake.  Do not have a recent fishing report. However at the beginning of the month rainbow power bait and night crawlers were working well.

Lake level is at 58 percent. 

Average Surface water temp is high 40 degrees   We expect it to cool off over the next few days, since the weather will start to cool off!

Fishing continues to be real good!

Trolling: Limits are being caught. The reports that we have received the best bet is still Wee Dick Nite Copper Red, Needlefish in Yellow Watermelon, or Red Dot Frog .and Sockeye Slammer Fire Tiger Size 2 were still doing the best

Fly fishing. Jenkins Point up to Mosquito Slough have been producing the best results.  The flies reported as doing the best re Snail Patterns, Midges, Wolly Buggers in black and cinnamon.  Duck season opened Oct 9th, however the hunters are pretty much gone by 8 or 9 in the morning.

Bank. Mallard Cove is best using Nightcrawlers or PowerBait.  Lemon Twist was on FIRE over the last weekend.  Rainbow is doing well also.  18 inches plus and several 4 plus have been caught at Mallard in the last few days.  Coot Bay and Fairview are also doing well.

Fly fishing. The best reports from your fellow anglers is from  Jenkins Point up to  Mosquito Slough have been producing the best results.  The flies being reported as doing the best are Jay Fair Wiggle Tail in burnt orange or olive, Wooly Buggers, Blood Midge under an indicator, sheep creek, pheasant tail, and snail patterns. There was a white midge hatch last weekend.

Bank. Fishing is picking up, limits are being reported as caught. The East side of the lake is the best.  Nightcrawlers are working the best, followed by powerbait in rainbow.  Nice 3 pounders have been caught at Mallard Cover the last few days.

The road into Jenkins Point has been redone.  The old access road is blocked by rocks.  Forest Service has not marked the new road  yet.  It is the first right after Camp 5 or the first left after Cow Creek, or you can always stop by the store for additional information.

Fishing is starting to pick up again.  It still rates two fish. The water is cooling over night to the high 60's and warming during the day to about 73 degrees.  The fish are still real confused on what they should or should not be doing.  The fish seem to be coming back towards the surface and out of the deep. The best strike zone is somewhere between 15 and 18 feet.

Trolling. Limits are being trolling. The reports that we have received the best bet is still Wee Dick Nite Copper Red, Needlefish Yellow Watermelon, Sockeye Slammer Fire Tiger Size 2, Needlefish Red Dot Frog were still doing the best.

Fly fishing. The best reports from your fellow anglers is that Jenkins Point has been producing the best results.  The flies being reported as doing the best are Jay Fair Wiggle Tail in burnt orange or olive, Wooly Buggers, Blood Midge under an indicator, sheep creek and pheasant tail.

Fishing has been excellent. It rates four fish, or the best!

Trolling. Wee Dick Nite Copper Red, Sockeye Slammer Fire Tiger Size 2, Needlefish Red Dot Frog. The water has warmed up on the surface, so, fish are a little deeper than last week. We checked the lake and found lots of large fish almost everywhere at a depth of 14 to 20 foot range, with the larger fish holding about 20 feet. When trolling, we have experienced the best results, if we tie our lures directly to the line, then about 150 feet behind the boat; trolling at a speed of 1.5 to 1.9 MPH.  We used a down-rigger to get the lures to the depth that we wanted; but split shot can be used equally as well. Limits "PLUS" can be caught!

Fly fishing, Early morning has been producing the best results. The flies being reported as doing the best are Jay Fair Wiggle Tail in burnt orange or olive, Wooly Buggers, Blood Midge under an indicator, sheep creek and pheasant tail.

Bank. Powerbait in Rainbow or Nightcrawlers are still working the best.

Catfish: The best is at Fairview Point and Coot's Bay.  The best reports from your fellow anglers that use either catfish bait or  Nightcrawlers. But, Catfish will bite on almost anything!

All access points around the lake are accessible by car. The road into Jenkins Point is being re-surfaced and it will provide a better access to this superb fishing point.

Fishing continues to be superb. 

Trolling. Wee Dick Nite Copper Red, Sockeye Slammer Fire Tiger Size 2, Needlefish Red Dot Frog. The water has warmed up on the surface, so, fish are a little deeper than last week. We checked the lake today and found lots of large fish almost everywhere at a depth of 12 to 14 foot range. When trolling, we have experienced the best results, if we tie our lures directly to the line, then about 150 feet behind the boat; trolling at a speed of 1.5 to 1.9 MPH.  We used a down-rigger to get the lures to the depth that we wanted; but split shot can be used equally as well. Limits "PLUS" can be caught! Friday  a 4 pound 15 ounce fish was caught!

Fly fishing, Jay Fair Wiggle Tail in burnt orange or olive are still producing great results. Blood midge under an indicator, sheep creek and flashback pheasant tail have been reported as having fair results.   May flies and the flying ants are hatching and are on.  The Damsel hatch has finally started.

Bank. Water temp is about 55 to 56 degrees 

Ed Dillard from Dillard's Guided Fishing had a group out  they caught 20+ fish.   Trolling using  Sockeye Slammer Fire Tiger size #2.     Others reported good results with Wee Dick Nite Copper Red Head, Needlefish Red Dot Frog  or Fire Tiger.   Fish are shallow in the 6 to 10 foot range.

Fly fishing, Jay Fair Wiggle Tail in burnt orange or olive are still producing good results. Blood midge under an indicator, sheep creek and flashback pheasant tail have been reported as having fair results.   May flies are hatching.

Ed Dillard from Dillard's Guided Fishing had a group out today they caught 35 fish.  Most in the 14 to15 inch range, the largest 16.5 inches.  Trolling using  Sockeye Slammer Fire Tiger size #2.     Others reported good results with Dick Nite Copper Red Head, Needlefish Red Dot Frog  or Fire Tiger.   Fish are shallow in the 6 to 10 foot range.

Fly fishing, Jay Fair Wiggle Tail in burnt orange or olive are still producing good results. Blood midge under an indicator, sheep creek and flashback pheasant tail have been reported as having fair results.

Powerbait in rainbow or nightcrawlers have  been producing the best results.  Remember the fish are shallow 6 to 10 ft.  Need to either use a long enough leader or fish from the top down to get the bait in front of the fish.  Good results have been reported at Old Camp 5.

All access points around the lake are accessible by car;  with three exceptions; Grizzly Creek, Jenkins and Cow Creek.  Grizzly Creek and Jenkins had huge mud puddles that looked like my Jeep would get stuck, so I did not attempt to cross them.  Cow Creek is very muddy in spots, definitely need  4-WD.

Trolling using  Dick Nite Copper Red Head, Needlefish Red Dot Frog, Firetiger,  Sockeye slammer at about.1.6 mph.  Good results on the east side of the small island and between the small island and the dam.

Fly fishing, Flashback pheasant tail beaded or not, Nymphs, Jay Fair Wiggle Tail in burnt orange or olive,  and  blood midge under an indicator  have all been working well.  The Damsels are starting to move about.

Bank fishing is a bit slow, powerbait in pink or sherbet, or nightcrawlers has been producing the best results.

Drove around the lake tonight.  With the exception of Grizzly Creek, Jenkins and Cow Creek all access points around the lake are easily accessible by car.  Grizzly Creek and Jenkins had huge mud puddles that looked like my Jeep would get stuck, so I did not attempt to cross them.  Cow Creek is very muddy in spots and even in 4-wd I was getting sideways.

Water temp is about 53 degrees

Fishing continues to be superb.   Limits  within  2 to 3 hours are the norm.

On May 17th Jon Baiocchi was out for two hours with his Dad; they trolled Jay Fair trolling flies in dark fiery brown with one color of lead core with a  30 ft leader.  6 fish, 16-19 inches.  First brood of blood midges are out.  Fairview Point and Freeman Creek had the most fish.

Trolling using a #7 split shot and Dick Nite Copper Red Head, Needlefish Red Dot Frog, Firetiger, Silver bikini or Sockeye slammer at about.1.6 mph.  Good results on the east side of the small island and between the small island and the dam.

Fly fishing, Flashback pheasant tail beaded or not, Nymphs, Jay Fair Wiggle Tail in burnt orange, Birds nest, and  blood midge under an indicator  have all been working well.  The Damsels are starting to move about.

On the West side of the lake Eagle Point and Camp 5 are easily accessible.  Roads into other access points on the west side are reported to be very muddy with a lot of standing water.

After our surprise amount of snow on Monday (which is just about all melted) the water temp is back up to 48 degrees.

Trolling using split shot and Dick Nite Copper Red Head, Needlefish Red Dot Frog, Firetiger, Silver bikini or Sockeye slammer at about.1.6 mph.

Fly fishing, Flashback pheasant tail beaded or not, Nymphs, Jay Fair Wiggle Tail in burnt orange, Birds nest, and  blood midge under an indicator  have all been working well.  The Damsels are starting to move about.

Limits are being caught within two to three hours.

Road on the east side is open to about Grizzly Creek.  West side road is giving up some of its snow, still need a 4 WD, last report people where still getting stuck at Eagle Point and Camp 5.  More snow is melting daily with our wonderful warm weather.  Easy access to Honker Bay, Coots Bay, Mallard Cove and both Lightening Tree areas.  

Water temp is about 48 degrees.

Trolling at about 6 feet, using Dick Nite Copper Red Head or Needlefish Red Dot Frog at about 1.6 mph.

Fly fishing, Flashback pheasant tail beaded or not, Nymphs, Jay Fair Wiggle Tail in burnt orange, Birds nest, and  blood midge under an indicator  have all been working well.  The Damsels are starting to move about

Honker Cove boat ramp is accessible!!!!  Thanks to Larry from Wildlife Charters, Ed from Dillard Guided Fishing and Tony from Lake Davis Resort. great efforts in getting the dock  in the water!! Make reservations, grab your  tackle and boat and come on up!  We can NOW launch our boats.

 Ice out is done and the lake is clear of ice,

 Fishing is good...the fish are hungry. Limits are being caught on the North side  Mallard Cove using pink, or sherbet powerbait. Nightcrawlers are also working well.  Blood midge under an indicator has been working well for fly fishing.

 The open water north of Coots Bay is increasing slowly.  Fishing with powerbait has resulted in limits being caught. 17 to 19 inches, averaging about 1 1/2 pounds.  Sherbet or a hot pink has been the best colors of powerbait.

 If you don't mind a hike north of Mallard Cove  there is open water.  The road is open to Mallard Cove on the East side, West side is still closed.

 Ice Fishing has been very good.  Most are quickly catching limits.  Ice is reported to be 18 to 24 inches thick.  Night crawlers or power bait (rainbow, chartreuse, or green & yellow) seem to be producing the best results.

 Ice Fishing has been very good.  Most are catching limits within two hours .  Ice is reported to be 18 to 24 inches thick.  As reported to the store larger fish are being caught by the big island and Eagle Point.  The Dam has been producing good results also.
